Life Is Good
Lyrics by Brieve Morison
I tied a kitchen knife to a wooden pole
Went out in the juerta to cut the brambles
The first day in my new home
Carlos came and on my wall he sat down
The sun was hot there was little wind
Carlos sat there watching me working
Smoked a few bajo nicotine cigarettes
Tried to talk but I couldn’t understand a word he said
Told me his name was Carlos nickname Sepo
Now I have to relate Sepo means that he’s the bait
I did not know that then
He got off the wall with an adios like a mate
I just kept on cutting badly so it went
My meeting with Carlos was on my mind
I wished I spoke his language had to learn
He returned in five and handed me a scythe
Carlos let me shoot his scopa
In the eucalyptus woods
I aimed for a tree my aim was good
As if in friendship I felt the wound in the wood
Carlos was many years older than me
But at 5 in the dawn he’d say madrugarse
Before he went to scythe his orchard
With friends I’ve been so very fortunate
Carlos is dead that’s for certain I know
There was an abandoned church in the pueblo
But if there is a happy heaven
I wish for him there
